After taking a deep dive into the foods we ingest daily and how those affect our bodies, it seemed natural to progress towards how our skin is affected by these toxic ingredients. I have completed a large number of hours educating myself about skin health and how our skin reflects our gut’s health. When experiencing discoloration, rosacea, acne, pigmentation, and others, I have come to the conclusion that our gut is sending us messages through our skin. I have spent countless days tracking my food intake and documenting how it showed up on my skin for months on end. I have now realized that I can ‘help’ my skin digest and process some of the foods I eat through a variety of resources available. Some of these tools include digestive enzymes to combat bloating, liver detox pills to help with clearing out the negative impacts of alcohol, or taking vitamin A supplements to aid the aging process. Despite popular belief, life is not about eliminating things from our diets or our lives, but rather learn how to combat those side effects of the foods or drinks we have in such a way that they don’t destroy our internal health.

After having tried almost every drugstore skincare brand (fairly certain I tried 95% of what is available) and not obtaining the results I wanted, I was left with a ton of resentment (sent so much $) and helplessness about whatever the condition was that I was fighting (be it cystic acne or rosacea or eczema). That’s when the term “medical grade skincare” entered my life and has never left. THESE are the products that have years of clinical research behind them to support their efficacy. Medical grade skincare is NOT to be confused with the term “dermatologist approved” or “dermatologist developed.” These latter terms mean nothing other than the fact that a dermatologist (ONE person) may have given their OK or may have been present in the development of the specific product. These terms, again, are marketing strategies to catch the consumer’s eye and convince us they are worth our money. This is where we, as the paying consumer, can take our power back and vote with our dollars. I cannot tell you just HOW skeptical I am of most if not all brands prior to doing my research about them, especially the ones that promote instant results. I am not looking fir instant results, rather for permanent ones.
Therefore, when you are ready to invest in your external beauty, when you want real results, and when you are fed up with the trial and error experiments, connect with a dermatologist or nurse practitioner practicing esthetics. Sometimes, I may recommend estheticians, but many of them recommend the products they offer in the practice, rather than the products that provide results and work. Medical estheticians may provide consultations over the phone and would be able to prescribe you a morning and night time routine based on your skin’s needs and your wallet’s depth (which I believe is just as important to consider).
