Wellness, Holistic Lifestyle, and Mental Health
Creating an individualized path to healing from the inside out and overcoming own limitations.
How can I help?
Life can get messy at times and, often, our mind seems to be working against us: causing self-doubt and guilt, negative thoughts, shame, and other insecurities. However, the mind also has the amazing ability to heal itself. It’s a matter of clearing out the negative perceptions and teaching you how to create and nourish a healthier version of yourself. Getting back to the basics is, oftentimes, necessary to explore one’s true self and build from there. As we know, life doesn’t come with a user manual. We often find an urgency for tools to navigate life. An important aspect of my approach focuses on teaching; teaching clients skills that can empower them to overcome life’s challenges. My goal is to teach skills that clients will be able to use for the rest of their lives with or without a therapist’s assistance.
I teach skills for a variety of challenges we face on a daily basis such as anxiety disorders (OCD, PTSD, phobias, panic disorders), mood disorders (depression and postpartum depression, bipolar disorders), just to name a few. My treatment approaches are focused on the root cause of the issue, rather than identifying a temporary fix. When working together, I focus on you as a whole and on how we can improve all aspects of your life. We will work together to integrate your mental, physical, spiritual, and emotional forms of well-being. The goal is to help you develop a deeper understanding of your true self on all these levels.
Therapy is not limited to those individuals diagnosed with a mental illness. Therapy is beneficial in a number of life’s stresses and conflicts that can affect anyone. I have experience and expertise working with clients in the following areas:
- Resolving conflicts
- Relieving anxiety
- Coping with major life changes
- Cognitive Restructuring
- Recover from Trauma
- Sleep Management
- Coping with guilt and shame
- Identifying and redefining clients' individual and unique life purpose
- Parenting
Mood Disorders
Mood Disorders
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is the most common and effective way of addressing mood disorders. This approach focuses on changing the clients’ thought process person’s distorted, distorted perceptions of self and their environment. CBT can also help with improving relationship skills and identifying distorted thinking patterns.
Anxiety Disorders
Anxiety Disorders
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is the most researched type of therapy for anxiety disorders. In general, CBT focuses on finding the counterproductive thinking patterns that contribute to anxiety. CBT offers many constructive strategies to reduce the beliefs and behaviors that lead to anxiety.
Parenting Issues
Parenting Issues
Becoming parents does not automatically make us skilled parents. Furthermore, parenting has its challenges at every stage from toddler to adolescent years and to parenting adult children. My approach to parenting focuses on teaching children skills at an early age; skills they can use and implement throughout their lives such as following instructions, accepting criticism, accepting decisions, making a request appropriately and so on. Furthermore, my outlook on parenting is rooted in positive discipline and empowerment of children.
Trauma Issues
Trauma Issues
The aftermath of trauma can be detrimental to one’s daily functioning. Trauma is defined by the client rather than the therapist. The clients’ perception of the experience is what is being addressed, regardless of its intensity. Only the client can determine whether an event has been traumatic or not, which puts the client in the driver seat of the approach. Hence, trauma is unique to each individual and so is the way we can treat it. Frequently, a person-centered approach together with Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy techniques have proven to be successful.

About Me
Roxana Muilenburg, LIMHP (Licensed Independent Mental Health Professional)
I’m passionate about teaching individuals how to overcome trauma and numerous mental health challenges that impact their daily functioning.
I do not have the typical “therapist background” as I was born and raised in Europe and traveled the world before the age of 21. I left my home when I turned 17 for a full scholarship opportunity in Pretoria, South Africa. Three years later, I found myself in the United States where I finished out my B.S. and finished my Masters Degree in Clinical Counseling in 2011. I graduated with Honors and on the Dean’s list. I have worked for 14 years at Boys Town (my first professional job) where I worked with children, families, in and out of home programs, taught Common Sense Parenting classes, and trained staff in a variety of programs ( such as the Psychiatric Residential Treatment Center, In Home Family Services, Family Home Program just to name a few).

What Others Say About Working With Me
How I live out my passion as a therapist & help others:
I find a sense of fulfillment and belonging when walking alongside others in their journey. I understand that our journeys are unique and may differ from one another, but I deeply value the importance of having someone to journey alongside. Recognizing the need for and genuinely pursing therapy are two of the bravest things a person can do for themselves. I am the therapist that can be the cheerleader working alongside you; one that will celebrate your successes, while also holding you accountable to your goals. I look forward to connecting with you.
The process of discovering more about who you are is something to embrace and celebrate!
